Olivia Rodrigo has shared the first taste of her upcoming album ‘you seem pretty sad for a
girl so in love’ and it gives a glimpse into some of the influences that have made their way into this era.

Titled ‘drop dead’, it slots perfectly into her repertoire of dizzying pop but there are plenty of flecks of the alternative thrown in. One clear influence is The Cure, whose track ‘Just Like Heaven’ is namedropped in the first verse, more prominently in the way the track feels light as a feather despite the heavy emotion at its core. Fuzzy guitars, soaring strings and lovelorn intentions, it’s the sort of smorgasbord of hedonism and heart-fluttering glitziness that Olivia exhibits so well.
And with this being the album’s opening track, there is no knowing what direction it may turn next.
Check it out alongside a video filmed in the literal PALACE OF VERSAILLES.
‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’ will be released on June 12.
